Our Summer "Advanced Problem-Solving Strategies"class is designed for children in grades 3-5 who are interested in developing and strengthening more advanced math competition problem-solving skills. It is intended as a supplement to our core math curriculum, not a substitute. Ideal for students seeking an extra challenge, this course focuses on higher-level thinking, creative strategies, and contest-style problems to help young mathematicians deepen their skills and confidence.
Students will focus on:
Mental Math: Boosting speed and accuracy in mental calculations.
Number Sense: Deepening understanding of place value, odd and even numbers, prime numbers, factors, and multiples.
Basic Arithmetic: Mastering addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, including multi-digit operations.
Fractions and Decimals: Performing basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) with simple fractions and decimals.
Order of Operations: Applying PEMDAS rules to solve multi-step problems accurately.
Time and Money: Strengthening familiarity with concepts of time and money.
Patterns and Sequences: Identifying and extending number patterns, including arithmetic and geometric sequences.
Basic Geometry: Exploring properties of shapes (triangles, quadrilaterals), calculating area, perimeter, and volume (cuboids), and understanding parallel and perpendicular lines.
Logical Thinking and Problem Solving: Developing strategies to tackle unfamiliar problems using logic, reasoning, and creative trial and error.
Through a mix of engaging lessons, fun challenges, and competition-style practice, students will enhance their problem-solving abilities and prepare for success in both academic settings and math competitions.
