Creative Writing II (Grades 5–6) – "Myth Makers: Legends, Lore, and Modern Heroes"
In this exciting summer course, students will tap into the ancient art of myth-making, blending storytelling traditions with their own modern-day creativity. In this mythology-themed creative writing course, students will invent creatures, create epic quests, and explore heroic journeys—building entire worlds that blend fantasy with reflections on real life.
Through daily "quick-writes" and thoughtful prompts, students will navigate character development, the building blocks of myths and legends, and the timeless themes of courage, change, and discovery. They’ll practice crafting stories that feel both exciting and personal.
Their final project will be a polished myth, legend, or modern heroic tale—giving readers a look into a world of their own invention.
By the end of the course, students will:
Explore how myths and legends shape storytelling across cultures
Refine narrative structure, paragraph development, and creative expression
Build complex characters and plot lines with a strong central theme
Complete a formal myth or fantasy story grounded in personal or universal themes
