Creative Writing III (Grades 6–8) – "Legends and Leaders: Stories that Shape the World"
In this advanced summer session, students will explore how stories—both ancient myths and modern narratives—have the power to shape societies and spark change. Through an exciting blend of creative writing and critical thinking, students will examine how fictional heroes and real-life leaders inspire action, build movements, and help people imagine a better world.
Each session, students will engage in "quickwrites" and creative exercises that challenge them to invent heroes, confront real-world challenges through storytelling, and reimagine myths for today's world. They’ll ask questions like: What makes a true hero? How do stories inspire real change? What causes matter most to me?
The course culminates in a polished narrative project where students craft an original story that reflects a cause or value they feel passionate about. Through carefully crafted characters, settings, and plots, students will create narratives that invite readers to reflect on their own lives and consider how they can make an impact.
By the end of the course, students will:
Explore how myths, legends, and fiction reflect real-world hopes, struggles, and transformations.
Strengthen narrative structure, paragraph development, and character building
Learn techniques for inspiring readers through story and theme.
Complete a polished narrative that connects personal passions with a call for reflection and action.
