Chess: Intermediate / Intro to Advanced Level - for students with foundational knowledge of chess, ready to sharpen their skills.
This summer course is designed for students who already know how the pieces move and understand the basics of check, checkmate, stalemate, and castling, but are ready to take their game to the next level.
Over the course of the program, students will:
Strengthen their understanding of opening principles
Learn to recognize and apply tactical patterns like forks, pins, skewers, and discovered attacks
Improve calculation and visualization, planning 2–4 moves ahead
Explore checkmating patterns and essential endgame strategies
Develop stronger middlegame planning, including piece coordination and king safety
Each class will include a mix of board demonstrations and practical play, with students participating in chess matches against one another under the instructor’s observation. This allows students to apply new ideas in real time while receiving feedback and guidance.

This class is intended for students who:
Have a strong command of piece movements
Understand check, stalemate, and basic checkmating patterns
May be familiar with castling and en passant
Have been introduced to basic tactics and strategic principles, but are still learning how to consistently apply them in their games
This course is ideal for players who are beyond the beginner stage and ready to deepen their skills, boost their confidence, and prepare for more competitive play.
