Our Chess Intermediate I "Knight Explorers" course builds on foundational skills from beginner levels, advancing students' chess knowledge and strategies. This course focuses on developing advanced tactics, strategic planning, and positional understanding.
Key Skills Covered:
Understanding the three phases of a chess game: opening, middlegame, and endgame
Mastering advanced tactics like pins, forks, and skewers
Learning the importance of pawn structure and piece development
Recognizing and defending against common checkmate patterns
Enhancing game mechanics, including castling, en passant, and pawn promotion
Practicing checkmating patterns with different pieces
Classes include board demonstrations, practical interactions, and playing matches under the instructor's guidance. Students will also be invited to participate in chess tournaments to test their skills in a competitive setting.
Prerequisites: This class is for children who have a strong command of basic chess moves and rules, including check, stalemate, and checkmate. Familiarity with castling and en passant is expected.
Duration: One school year (approximately 32-34 lessons).
